Hogging Vaccines Of COVID-19

This post is taken from IZULAT blog repost here.

Lately, South Arica has been worrying about the hogging or hoarding activities of wealthier countries which it said that these countries do about the COVID-19 vaccines which left the Africans no more available vaccines for them.

African expert regarding the pandemic said that some countries thought if they vaccinate their population, they are now safe from the coronavirus without regards to other countries battling against the virus and said that no one is safe unless everyone in the world is safe.

“"Fundamentally, there's a mistaken belief by some countries that they can vaccinate their populations and they'll be safe."It simply is not true. In this world that we live in, with this coronavirus, no-one is safe until everyone is safe," said Prof Salim Abdool Karim, chair of the government's coronavirus advisory panel[of South Africa]….. "There's no endgame that sees one country succeeding in controlling the virus while the rest of the world is dealing with rampant spread. For me, we all need to stand together. It's in everyone's interests….."To me it would be unconscionable that a country like the US or UK to start vaccinating low risk young people, when we here in Africa haven't even started vaccinating healthcare workers and the elderly. "At the rate at which things are going, that is what's going to happen," he warned.” (BBC)

The main point : South African expert told wealthier countries not to hoard or hog COVID-19 vaccines and let other countries like Africa could buy some and said no one is safe unless everyone in the world is safe.

North Korea – Recently, North Korea unveils its large submarine-launched ballistic missile in a military parade.

“North Korea has celebrated the end of a rare political meeting by unveiling what appears to be a missile designed to be fired from a submarine. Images released by the country's state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) showed thousands of people and soldiers at a nighttime military parade in Pyongyang, the capital, including leader Kim Jong Un. The headliner, however, was the new submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) -- which KCNA declared was the "world's most powerful weapon." Solid-fueled missiles can be fired on shorter notice than liquid-fueled counterparts.”(CNN)

“Analysts said Kim's plans -- and the missiles put on display -- are worrying signs for the future of any possible disarmament talks between Pyongyang and the incoming administration of US President-elect Joe Biden. "No matter who is in power in the US, the true nature and the true spirit of the anti-North Korea policy will never change," Kim said Saturday. "The development of nuclear weapons will be pushed forward without interruption."” (CNN)

Crimes Against Humanity In The Philippines For Drug War

This post is taken from IZULAT blog repost he

Philippines - Recently, the International Criminal Court or ICC have said that there is a reasonable basis to believe that “crimes against humanity” has been committed in the Philippines by President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration concerning the Philippines’ war on illegal drugs that started when President Rodrigo Duterte take office as the President of the Philippines.

“The International Criminal Court’s (ICC) chief prosecutor said on Monday that there is “reasonable basis to believe” the Philippines has committed crimes against humanity in connection with President Rodrigo Duterte’s so-called war on drugs operation. Fatou Bensouda’s office, in its annual report, said those crimes included murder, torture, infliction of serious physical injury and mental harm. They took place between July 1, 2016 and March 16, 2019. The ICC prosecutor’s office has been examining the Philippines’ case since 2018, focusing in particular on allegations that Duterte and other government officials have actively promoted and encouraged the killing of suspected drug users and dealers, as well as claims that law enforcement officials and unidentified assailants have carried out thousands of unlawful killings in the Philippines. A final decision on a formal ICC investigation could come in the first half of 2021, the report said, attributing the delays to the coronavirus pandemic.”(Aljazeera)

According to human rights advocates, there are as many as 27,000 were killed on the Philippine government’s war on illegal drugs.

“….. rights advocates say as many as 27,000 people were killed as of mid-2019 – including the victims killed by “unknown gunmen”, some of whom later turned out to be police officers. Among those who were killed were more than a dozen town mayors and other local officials as well as lawyers and judges. Also killed were several minors, who were not linked to any drug activity, but whom the government thought of as “collateral damage”.”(Aljazeera)

In response to the investigation of ICC, the Philippines or President Duterte administration has officially withdrawn the country of being a member of the ICC on March 17,2019 and President Duterte warned that he will arrest the ICC official once it steps in the Philippines and conduct an investigation.

However, President Duterte’s own statements : (1) ‘I will kill more if only to get rid of drugs’, and (2) “Don’t be president, if you can’t kill” ….[his job is] “to scare people, to intimidate people, and to kill people.”;  does it prove he and his administration is guilty of the accusation of committing “crimes against humanity”?

“On several occasions, Duterte has publicly told police officers to ‘shoot and kill’ drug suspects, adding ‘I will kill more if only to get rid of drugs’”(Aljazeera)

“The president himself has repeatedly promised that his “drug war” will last until the final day of his presidency. As recent as early March, he was quoted on separate occasions saying, “Don’t be president, if you can’t kill” and that it was his job “to scare people, to intimidate people, and to kill people.””(Aljazeera)

The main point : The International Criminal Court or ICC said there is a reasonable basis to believe that “crimes against humanity” has been committed in the Philippines on President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration concerning the war on illegal drugs.

“Hungary’s parliament Tuesday passed a law effectively banning adoptions for same-sex couples. The constitutional change marked the latest in a succession of restrictions on LGBT rights in Hungary under right-wing Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his ruling Fidesz party. Lawmakers also approved new measures to strengthen Orban’s power, due to come into force after Hungary’s next election in 2023. Under the rule changes, the Hungarian constitution will allow only married couples and single people granted special permission by the government to adopt children. This article is taken from IZULAT blog repost here.

New Zealand – Currently, euthanasia or so-called “assisted dying” on New Zealand still not legal according to information on the web but according to the news it will soon be legal. It will be law soon on New Zealand.

“Euthanasia is currently illegal in New Zealand and will remain so until the End of Life Choices Act 2019 takes full effect in November 2021. It is also illegal to "aid and abet suicide" under Section 179 of the New Zealand Crimes Act 1961. The clauses of this act make it an offence to "incite, procure or counsel" and "aid and abet" someone else to commit suicide, regardless of whether a suicide attempt is made or not. Section 179 covers both assisted suicide and true suicide, such as that caused by bullying. This will not change under the End of Life Choices Act 2019, which has provisions on coercion of terminally ill people.” (Wikipedia)

“The legislation, which automatically becomes law if the referendum is passed, authorises a doctor to administer or prescribe a lethal dose of medication to competent adults suffering unbearably from a terminal illness that would probably end their life within six months. Among the more than 45 safeguards that must be met, the person must request to end their life voluntarily and directly and cannot be wanting to end their life only because of advanced age or disability. Two doctors would have to agree to the decision.”(Aljazeera)

“New Zealanders were asked to vote ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to a bill allowing the terminally ill to end their lives.’(Aljazeera)

“The law will allow terminally ill people with less than six months to live the opportunity to choose assisted dying if approved by two doctors.”(BBC)

“The legislation authorises a doctor or nurse to administer or prescribe a lethal dose of medication to be taken under their supervision if all the conditions are met.The law also says a person cannot be eligible for assisted dying on the basis of advanced age, mental illness, or disability alone.”(BBC)

“Euthanasia is the act of deliberately ending a life to relieve suffering, while assisted suicide is the act of deliberately assisting another person to kill themselves. In contrast to euthanasia and assisted suicide, assisted dying would apply to terminally ill people only.” (BBC)
