Coke's Circular Community Promotion

 also posted in Current Philippines.. this post can be applicable to all Coke distributors around the world as Coke's engagement on circular community sustainability.

This is excluding caps and labels as I learned from the news.Coca-Cola Philippines have been for and supporting circular economy for bottling and for plastic packaging in the Philippines.And also I learned,Coca-Cola Philippines have sustainability initiatives and have so-called "sustainability hub" on their particular web address if one would like to look at it and learn something.

Coca-Cola Philippines have launched,introduced and supported a bottling made from 100 % recycled PET plastic or so-called "rPET" or Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate as it is what to be mean.The bottle is now available in Coca-Cola original on 190ml and 390ml and in Wilkins bottle or Wilkins Pure on 500ml. And the company have also already established drop-off points across the entire country or as I learned an over of 2,800 recycling drop-off points.

This sustainability initiative is inspired by the efforts to help solve plastic waste problem;thus,the consumer engagement initiative - "Mey Ikabobote Pa" or what they promote - "Bottles can have many lives".

Coca-Cola Philippines President Tony Del Rosario,says : "Coca-Cola recognizes that the plastic waste problem in the Philippines is both urgent and complex.Therefore,it will take a collaborative effort to solve this issue.In line with our commitment to helping build a circular economy in the country,we are working to offer innovative packaging design,expand collection and recycling program,and forge strategic alliances with stakeholders - including government agencies,industry partners,and local organizations...We will also use our brand power to engage consumers in collection and recycling initiatives and build awareness that used plastic bottles can have many lives."

Coca-Cola have established an initiatives like the PETValue Philippines - a bottle-to-bottle recycling facility.It is a joint venture of Coca-Cola Beverages Philippines,Inc.(CCBPI) and Indorama Ventures. Indorama Ventures is said to be a leader or a global leader in packaging solutions and green technology.Coca-Cola have also "Tapon To Ipon: Basta Klaro,Panalo!"

"Mey Ikabobote Pa" includes (1) new rPET labels like "Recycle Me Again" and a QR code (2) consumer recycling experiences on Coca-Cola's on ground events.(3) a digital-led communications for consumers to co-create educational content to and for a wider audience experience (4) have partnership with 7-Eleven and Shell.

Coca-Cola have also "Tapon To Reborn" for its employees to engage and participate on its commitment for sustainability.

Fossil Fuel Air Pollution Kills People Yearly

According to new study, the contribution of fossil fuel on air pollution is big as it causes big percentage of death yearly.

“The new study shows that in 2018, estimated 8.7 million deaths were linked to fossil fuel emissions alone.”(CNN)

“More than 8 million people around the world die each year as a result of breathing polluted air that contains particles from fossil fuels, a new study has found. Burning fossil fuels such as coal and oil produces greenhouse gases that trap solar radiation in the atmosphere and cause climate change. But it also releases tiny poisonous particles known as PM2.5. Small enough to penetrate deep into the lungs, these particles can aggravate respiratory conditions like asthma and can lead to lung cancer, coronary heart disease, strokes and early death.”(CNN)

“A report released Tuesday shows the emissions from use of fossil fuels was responsible for one in five premature deaths around the world in 2018 — significantly more than was previously thought. The study shows that burning fossil fuels have dire implications for the health of human beings, in addition to being a major contributing factor in climate change….. What is Fossil Fuel?

Fossil Fuel is the energy or fuel one get from a long been dead plants and animals under the surface of the earth or underground which are dig and burn for a source of energy that can be use.

The main point : According to new study, fossil fuel contribute greatly on air pollution and many deaths of people due to polluted air they breath. Fossil fuel when burned produce a toxic particle which is inhale by people causing illness and death.

Spinach As Source of Energy

 

Recent findings of scientist say spinach can be a new and more effective catalyst that the commercial platinum catalyst; it can be an effective sustainable source or energy and fuel. However, the spinach as catalyst is not yet available in the real world according to the news.

“Scientists from the American University (AU) have found a way to use spinach as a catalyst for an oxygen reduction reaction in fuel cells and metal-air batteries. It works by accelerating the reaction to produce sufficient current and create energy.”(Energy Live News)

“The research says spinach was chosen as it contains considerable amounts of iron and nitrogen among other elements, which are important for catalysts. It can also survive in low temperatures and is abundant in nature. The scientists converted spinach from its leafy, edible form into carbon nanosheets through a process that included washing, juicing and grinding it into a powder that was used in the laboratory tests.” (Energy Live News)

‘Typically, carbon-based catalysts fail to outperform platinum. But lightly-salted spinach leaves that were blended, freeze-dried, and heat-treated into layers of nanosheets were more efficient than platinum fuel cells, according to research published last month in the journal ACS Omega.” (Futursim)

Microplastics Found On Sea Floor

 

Recently scientists found a higher level or volume of plastics particularly microplastics on the sea floor to be ever recorded according to the news. These plastics according to the news were carried by water currents beneath the sea or ocean which are scattered and distributed on connecting water bodies.

 

 “Scientists have identified the highest levels of microplastics ever recorded on the seafloor…. These items likely included fibres from clothing and other synthetic textiles, and tiny fragments from larger objects that had broken down over time. The researchers' investigations lead them to believe that microplastics (smaller than 1mm) are being concentrated in specific locations on the ocean floor by powerful bottom currents.”(BBC)

 

“It's been calculated that something in the order of four to 12 million tonnes of plastic waste enter the oceans every year, mostly through rivers.Media headlines have focused on the great aggregations of debris that float in gyres or wash up with the tides on coastlines.” (BBC)

Study says that editing the genes of plants and animals could help us humans and could contribute in controlling climate change problem in our planet. Experts will use a technology to do the editing.

“Editing the genes of plants and animals could help mitigate greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture and other sectors, according to a report highlighting the possible uses of the technology. Why it matters: For too long the potential of biotechnology to address climate change has taken a back seat to engineering, chemistry and energy. But new advances in gene editing could make farming more efficient and take carbon out of the atmosphere.” (Axios)

Fast Growing And Dying Plants

Recent study says that too much carbon dioxide makes plants grow fast yet makes them also die fast or die early or die young. This happening put the role of forests in the planet as carbon sink at risk.

Carbon overload not only kills plants as the news said but also contribute to climate change of course because of too much of it in the atmosphere.

If this condition persists, we can expect of loosing plants or forests as our helper on our carbon dioxide problem.

GM Mosquitoes To Be Release On Florida Keys

Florida Keys, America – By the year 2021 and 2022 according to the news, local authorities on Florida Keys have approve the release of 750 million GM mosquitoes in a hope to kill the population of mosquitoes in the area that spread deadly diseases like dengue, zika, yellow fever, and chikungunya. These GM mosquitoes are male mosquitoes.

The plan and activity is headed by Oxitec company that invented a mosquito name OX513A wherein it will kill the mosquito population in the area. The main target mosquito is the Aedes Aegypti which said to be spreading the mosquito-originated deadly diseases. The plan has been successful on Cayman Islands, Brazil, and Panama according to the news which have 95 % rate successful.

But the residents and the environmental groups are worrying about it. The residents are angry that they don’t want to become a guinea pigs and the environmental groups are worrying its effects on environment and ecosystem.

“However, environmental groups worry that the spread of the genetically modified male genes into the wild population could potentially harm threatened and endangered species of birds, insects and mammals that feed on the mosquitoes. "The release of genetically engineered mosquitoes will needlessly put Floridians, the environment and endangered species at risk in the midst of a pandemic," said Dana Perls, food and technology program manager at Friends of the Earth,….. “(CNN)
