UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is to hold a press conference at Downing Street later to provide updates on the response to the coronavirus pandemic. It comes as a growing list of countries have banned arrivals from the UK because of concerns at the spread of a new variant of coronavirus.”(BBC)

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will chair an emergency meeting with ministers Monday after the announcement of a new coronavirus variant prompted a chaotic border shutdown. Alarm over the new variant, which was first identified in England, has resulted in British travelers being cut off from much of Europe and other parts of the world as countries imposed restrictions on travel from the UK.”(CNN)

“Worse, the move has sparked fears that European exporters would be reluctant to send goods to the UK, for fear of not being able to return. The timing of the restrictions, just days before Christmas and the end of the Brexit transition period, raised concerns about food and medicine shortages in the UK at a critical time.”(CNN)

In a hastily called press conference Saturday, Johnson said the new variant appeared to "be up to 70% more transmissible," and was responsible for a significant rise in cases in London and southeastern England. Those areas were placed under heightened restrictions.”(CNN)

“Outside of the UK, the new variant has already been identified in Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands and Australia.” (CNN)

“All viruses mutate over time and new variants are a common emergence, including for the novel coronavirus. A similar variant to the one identified in the UK has also been identified in South Africa, where scientists say it is spreading quickly along coastal areas of the country.” (CNN)

There are no winners, just some players that suffered fewer injuries. In a short period of time we have undone a century of progress in bringing people together and connecting markets. The message we must take from this study is the urgent need to re-build the global air transport network,” said Sebastian Mikosz, IATA’s Senior Vice President for Member External Relations.” (Business Standard)

Fly Dead Love Ones Into The Space

If one could fly dead love one into the moon one will but actually there is. Cremated remains of love ones can be aboard a spaceflight and make travel outside the planet or even put love one’s ashes on the moon surface. There is a service offering this.

Celestis is a company offering such service and launching its new mission called Luna 02 or the tranquility flight.

Celestis calls the upcoming mission Luna 02 or "the Tranquility Flight." This latter name both honors the Apollo missions (Apollo 11 touched down in the moon's Sea of Tranquility) and describes the final resting place and peace of mind for participants and their families, said Celestis co-founder and CEO Charles Chafer. Celestis provides a variety of mission options, Chafer …… "Our Luna Service is among the most popular, as it affords families and friends the permanence of an off-planet service and provides a constant reminder in the night sky of a loved one's final resting place," he said. The Luna 02 mission is the 18th Celestis memorial spaceflight mission. The company has launched symbolic portions of cremated remains into suborbital space and Earth orbit, as well as to the lunar surface. Celestis' Luna 01 flight sent the "cremains" of the renowned astrogeologist Eugene Shoemaker to the moon aboard NASA's Lunar Prospector spacecraft in 1998. Planetary scientist Carolyn Porco championed the proposal to honor the late scientist by sending his ashes to the moon.” (Space)

“"Our Luna 02 mission and subsequent Celestis Luna missions commemorate those who wish to make a tangible contribution to humanity's continued exploration and peaceful utilization of space," Chafer said. "As humanity expands beyond the limits of a single planet, it is particularly appropriate that we carry our rituals, celebrations and memorials along with us."” (Space)
