Philippines – Every
year a Christian religious event took place in the Philippines which are
attended almost millions of people but now the attendance has been curtailed
due to COVID-19 pandemic. Actually, the event is supposed to be cancel because
of the COVID-19 pandemic but many Filipino could not be stop to attend to it as
many go to Quiapo church. The Christian religious event is the feast of the
Black Nazarene of the black statue of Jesus Christ and its so-called “translacion”.
Though the attendees
or the devotees wear face mask and face shield, according to the news, they
still violate health protocol regarding COVID-19 that is they do not observe
social distancing and health government officials are fearing a surge of
COVID-19 cases because of the event that will become a super spreader of the disease
or the COVID-19.
The black statue
was supposed to make procession around Manila but now because of COVID-19
pandemic the black statue is kept inside the church and church attendance is
only limited to 400 people but with face mask and face shield.
The devotee believes
that touching the black statue and having glimpse of it and being with its presence
will heal their sickness and will bring blessings or good fortune thus so many
are striving to touch it, have a glimpse of it and being with its presence.
The feast of the Black
Nazarene is celebrated every 9th of January.
The main point :
Every year many Christian Filipinos attended the feast of the Black Nazarene on
January 9 but because of the COVID-19 pandemic the attendance has been
curtailed yet still some Filipinos were never stop from attending the event despite
of the pandemic around and were found violating social distancing and health
officials are fearing of a surge of COVID-19
cases because the event will become a super spreader of the disease or
COVID-19.
