News sites are websites that caters and offers news content like newspaper;they are like online newspaper.
Lately,i heard news on the internet that news websites are on the brink of losing their visibility on the web and will succumb to financial bankruptcy due to a model that is already losing its ground to support the existence of news websites.
The news said "The honeymoon period looks to be over for online news websites - left fragile bay a model built almost entirely on advertising." (inquirer, net)
The news cite particular websites, these are BuzzFeed and Mashable.
It says "BuzzFeed has given up on going public for now and Mashable is looking for an emergency buyer."(inquire.net)
BuzzFeed as the news said will no longer be visible next year - that is year 2018;and Mashable will be sold to ZiffDavis. "...mean it [BuzzFeed] is no longer expected to go public next year.."(inquire.net) "and it [Mashable] is reportedly about to be sold to ZiffDavis" (inquire.net)
The sudden decline into non-visibility on the web is said to be due to losing sponsoring or losing investors (or sponsors) to invest (or to sponsor) on the site.Consequently, loosing revenue or profit that pay writers on the site if the website employ writers to sustain the content of the website.
For as the news said, because the website is entirely depending on its advertisers or on "advertising" to sustain the life of the website. Thus,if there is no longer investors or sponsors on the website, the website will die.
In the news,it is said BuzzFeed "..has just announced it is letting go of around 100 of its 1,700 employees" (inquire.net)
The problem is even though you have top-notch content and large traffic,if there is no people or have no people to care for the advertisement on the website, investors or advertisers will pull out from your website and the worse if your website relies and depends entirely on the feet of advertising, most likely and indeed your website will succumb to death.
""Advertisers are increasingly demanding more granularity in targeting capability to reach consumers." Monica Pearl,eMarketer's senior director of forecasting""(inquire.net)
""Web publishers can publish an unlimited number of pages and get an unlimited number of page views but there's only a limited number of people buying advertising""(inquire, net)
