A Robot Service Delivery Or Robot Delivery Service

Thursday, December 3, 2020 | 0 comments

This post is taken from IZULAT blog repost here

Usually orders are delivered by a person to the doors of those who order something or a thing to business establishment like for example foods like burgers but to other countries the delivery person is not a person but a robot. Yes, a robot is delivering an order to the doors of those who order instead of a person or a delivery man. According to the news, the demand for contactless deliveries rises because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The company behind this autonomous delivery service robots is the Starship Technologies.

The autonomous robots, which can carry up to 20 pounds, could find a new customer base as people seek ways to get groceries and food without having to visit in person. Users place their order via the Starship Deliveries app and drop a pin where they want the delivery sent. The robot’s progress can be watched via an interactive map. Once the robot arrives, users receive an alert, and can then meet and unlock it through the app. The robots, which can cross streets, climb curbs, travel at night and operate in both rain and snow, are monitored remotely by Starship. Human operators can take control of the robots if needed.” (Tech Crunch)

Starship Technologies robots have completed over 500,000 commercial autonomous deliveries in local neighbourhoods and university campuses across five countries. The retail giant said the most popular items delivered by robot included milk, eggs, bread, bananas and cucumbers.”(BM Magazine)

“Starship Technologies operates commercially on a daily basis around the world. Its robots have completed over 500,000 autonomous deliveries and crossed more than five million streets. The robots move at pedestrian speed and use a combination of sophisticated machine learning, artificial intelligence and sensors to travel on sidewalks and navigate around obstacles. The computer vision-based navigation helps the robots to map their environment to the nearest inch. The robots can cross streets, climb curbs, travel at night and operate in both rain and snow. A team of humans can also monitor their progress remotely and can take control at a moment’s notice.”(Save Mart)

“Starship Technologies is revolutionizing deliveries with autonomous robots. The robots are designed to deliver food, groceries and packages locally in minutes. The delivery robots have traveled hundreds of thousands of miles and met millions of people across 100 cities around the world. They drive autonomously but are monitored by humans who can take control at any time. Starship was founded by two Skype co-founders, Ahti Heinla and Janus Friis. Former AirBnB executive Lex Bayer is CEO.” (Save Mart)

The main point : Robot delivery service have risen a big demand because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the company Starship Technologies is on it which created the robots.

Help For Physically Disabled

Monday, October 12, 2020 | 0 comments

If you do not hear yet of a suit that can help physically disabled people be physically abled again- then this I will tell you.

There is a developed wearable robotic suit or wearable cyborg suit where physically disabled person can wear and be as if he is not physically disabled. That suit is called “Hybrid Assistive Limb” or “HAL” .It is an exoskeleton that is powered by wearer’s mind.

The suit is developed and invented by Cyberdyne Inc company by a known Japanese roboticist Yoshiyuki Sankai.

According to information about it, one cannot easily wear it and everything goes well but it needs time and help from a physiotherapist before the suit and one’s brain work properly and used to one another.

“HAL -- essentially a wearable cyborg -- helps those with spinal cord injuries and muscular dystrophy regain their movements and strengthen their nerves and muscles. Known as exoskeletons, they're a type of lightweight suit, with joints powered by small electric motors, that serve as mechanical muscle. Here's what's truly mind-blowing: Patients use their brain waves to control them.” (CNN)

An Object Approaching Earth

Thursday, October 8, 2020 | 0 comments

Recently astronomers say that an object is coming toward planet or approaching planet earth but with low speed which astronomers suspected to be not an asteroid but a thing or a space junk. They suspected it to be a rocket booster from the 1966 space mission of Surveyor 2 that has lost contact then and now coming home.

Once it enters the earth’s orbit it will become as they say “mini moon”. The object will be on October 2020 up to May 2021 as the news said. They name it as 2020 SO.

“Astronomers believe the object may actually be a piece of human-made space junk that's, well, returning home…… Some scientists think the object may be what's left of a mission that launched for the moon more than 50 years ago. NASA's Surveyor 2 spacecraft launched atop an Atlas LV-3C Centaur-D on September 20, 1966. Unfortunately, NASA lost contact with the craft three days later when a thruster failed to start, sending the mission on a tailspin into the lunar surface.” (Popular Mechanics)

“The working theory is that 2020 SO may actually be the Centaur stage of the United Launch Alliance rocket that propelled Surveyor 2 out of Earth's orbit. The object's size, which researchers have determined to be roughly between 21 and 46 feet long, is a relatively close match for the rocket's dimensions (approximately 41 feet). It's also moving at a much slower clip than what is expected of a natural asteroid, or even rocks that have been ejected from the lunar surface.”(Popular Mechanics)

New Toilets On Space Station

Thursday, October 1, 2020 | 0 comments

NASA a US space agency have recently sent a new toilet system called Universal Waste Management System (UWMS) to International Space Station or ISS last September 29,2020 as the news said. The new toilet system according to the news cost $23 million. The toilet system have improved or enhanced features compare to former ones being use on space station.

The system has strong airflow as the news said to better management the urine and feces from floating in space because of no gravity or less gravity in the environment.

The $23 million toilet system, known as the Universal Waste Management System (UWMS), is 65% smaller and 40% lighter than the toilet currently in use on the space station, and can support larger crews. The toilet will launch to the space station aboard a Northrop Grumman Cygnus cargo capsule on Sept. 29, as part of a routine resupply mission.” (Space)

“ The space toilet's advanced design includes a urine funnel and seat that is created to be more accommodating for female crew members. It also features a 3D-printed titanium dual fan separator, which was developed by Collins Aerospace and creates a strong airflow that, in lieu of gravity, helps to pull the astronauts’ urine and waste into the toilet. The titanium design also improves upon the existing pretreat system used to collect and treat astronauts' urine before it is processed and recycled for reclaimed water.” (Space)

“The UWMS measures roughly 28 inches (71 centimeters) tall, which is comparable to the compact toilets used on campers, McKinley said during the conference. The toilet also has an automatic starting system, rather than an on and off switch like current toilet models on the space station. The new system will be used routinely by the crew on the space station and tested over the next three years to make sure everything works as planned. Prior to launch, the system was tested in environments designed to simulate that of the space station, NASA officials have said.” (Space)
